Paper title: Durability of Polyester Geotextiles Subjected To Outdoor and Accelerated Weathering

Authors - Daniel Gibbs and Richard Austin

1990-2011-Australia-UV-Map-UV-Rack-LocationsConstruction projects require geotextiles to be exposed to ultra-violet radiation, possibly for many months or years. Australia has the highest UV exposure in the world, requiring engineers to understand how the geotextile they specify or install performs in prolonged UV exposure. This is even more important when the geotextile concerned is manufactured elsewhere in the world, where the local UV resistance requirements are much lower.

Geofabrics believes that UV resistance is a critical performance criteria, and in recent years have invested in an accelerated UV test apparatus for our own R&D. Further, we have been running real-time UV exposure R&D across Australia for the past 5 years.

This paper presents real-time outdoor exposure data on 5 grades of polyester geotextiles over many months across a number of Australian locations. These results are compared to those from accelerated UV testing from Xenon Arc tests on different materials.
